Obituaries The Leader :DEVLIN James Edward



Mr James Edward Devlin, 52, of Nuriootpa, who died on April 1, was 19 when he joined the
AIF in World War I, and was away for 3½ years. In the last war he served for 2 years with
the Garrison Battn., then work in munitions until September last. He had been in Adelaide
Hospital for a month, but the end came unexpectedly. Left with Mrs Devlin (nee Vera Vogt
Mylor) are Norma, Joyce and Raymond. Eldest son of Mrs and the late Mr J. B. Devlin, he
was born at Dutton, being only 2 when his parents moved to Alice Springs, where he grew
up. Returning to the old district, he was a baker for Messrs Krause Bros, at Angaston, prior
to enlistment. He was afterwards with the telegraph dept. for a long time, and from 1936 till
1939 grew tobacco and was winner of cup for the best tobacco grown in S.A. in 1938. Rev.
R. Plowes ministered at the funeral at Nuriootpa on April 2, when bearers were Diggers S.
Reid, G. I. Nisbett, J. T. Clarke and A. J. Chapman. In addition to the mother, 5 brothers
and 2 sisters remain; Bern, Salisbury; Wal, Renmark; Rose (Mrs E. Nenke) Hyde Park;
Jack, St. Peters; Nelson, Salisbury; Vi (Mrs V. Brobrige) and Vic., both Adelaide.
